Adressing challenges

in the Industrial equipment industry

Industrial machinery companies operate in a challenging environment that makes them struggle daily to innovate and optimize their products. Machinery of all segments faces constantly growing global competition. Customer requirements for product quality and delivery terms are continuously increasing since they also have to be number one in their markets. Manufacturing enterprises tend to join in bigger holdings, which leads to facilities reconfiguration, establishing common standards in different areas and creates a need for fast and secure data exchange and reuse between distributed sites.

pSeven solutions for multidisciplinary design optimization and workflow automation are developed to help machinery manufacturers manage these challenges. Major industrial machinery manufacturers already use pSeven solutions to reduce physical testing, accelerate engineering process and collaborate securely — all while improving product quality.

Optimize performance, reduce costs and improve reliability

with Design Space Exploration

In the industrial equipment industry, where products represent significant capital investment and are critical to client operations, it is key to quiclky find the best design parameters, reduce physical tests, evaluate alternatives and enhance reliability. pSeven solutions help industrial machinery engineers finding the optimal balance between various factors like weight, strength, material usage and production cost while meeting specific constraints, such as safety standards or environmental requirements.

With Design Exploration and Process Integration capabilities of pSeven solutions, machinery engineers can integrate multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluid dynamics, etc.) into automated workflows and solve single- and, more importantly, multi-objective problems where goals conflict, for example, simultaneously maximizing efficiency while minimizing cost and noise.

Equipment must perform consistently despite variations in manufacturing tolerances, material properties and operating conditions. pSeven solutions help engineers efficiently quantify and deal with uncertainties in design variables and responses, allowing them to solve reliability problems stemming from real-world uncertainty.

Mixing quality optimization
of a static helix mixer

Static helix mixers are widely used in chemical industry for in-line blending of high viscous liquids under laminar flow conditions. Mixing quality is known to depend upon the blades geometry and could be significantly improved by the right choice of blades length, thickness and twist angle. The objective of the project was to determine optimal geometry of static helix mixer blades to obtain the best attainable mixing performance with minimal pressure drop for the mixer of given constant length.

Predict product behaviour

and accelerate simulations with fast ML models

In the competitive field of industrial equipment engineering, the drive for innovation is perpetually balanced against the constraints of time, cost and computational resources. Predictive models (or ROMs) are transformative tools in industrial equipment engineering. They serve as efficient surrogates that accelerate the computation of complex simulation models by many orders of magnitude. For example, they are useful for conducting fast parametric and optimization studies. They predict critical performance responses for new designs in seconds, allowing engineers to explore vast design spaces and optimize prototypes without the computationally intensive simulations. Furthermore, they allow capturing valuable knowledge from huge datasets of historical data, real-time inputs and physics-based simulations into reusable, actionable insights for design and operational decisions.

settings  Use case

Predictive models for hydraulic components

In this use case, a jet pump consisting of a motive fluid inlet, a throat with three suction pipes, and an outlet is considered. The goal is finding the relation between the suction pipes flow rates and hydraulic resistances, the throat hydraulic resistance, and the motive fluid flow rate. CFD simulation is not suitable for an iterative simulation of an entire hydraulic system as it is too time-consuming. So, a predictive model of the device is used instead for fast and accurate iterative calculation of a hydraulic network.

Automate engineering processes and reduce errors

with workflow automation

For plenty of companies, integration of processes related to the product design and analysis is on the top of the agenda. To win in the competitive race, manufacturers of all machinery industry segments have to reduce design cycle of more complex products, while keeping the product quality high and prices on the same level. pSeven solutions help streamlining simulation workflows in industrial machinery engineering by automating complex tasks and multidisciplinary analysis with Process Integration capabilities.

Industrial equipment design involves multiple domains, each requiring specialized tools, industry enterprises having a complex IT-structure. The results of these tools operation might be hard to collect, analyze and visualize. pSeven solutions seamlessly integrate various engineering software, enabling automated multidisciplinary analysis.

pSeven solutions allow users to capture complex engineering workflows involving external CAD/CAE systems. This is done by visually modeling every step of the process, including building geometry models, generating meshes, processing results and exchanging data between different software. These workflows can be automated to run repetitive simulations with minimal user intervention, reused, shared and adapted for similar tasks or projects ensuring consistency and saving time.
