Many PLM / SPDM systems on the market provide functionality for execution of simulation in one way or another. But it is often limited to batch execution of a single software, doesn't support complex workflow logic and lacks Design Space Exploration capabilities, as this is not the primary purpose of such systems, unlike streamlining business processes, traceable storage of design data and requirements management.
As a collaborative engineering platform, pSeven Enterprise is designed for assembling and executing complex simulation workflows - both in the cloud. All workflows are executed server-side in predefined runtime environments with scalable resource management. All of that makes pSeven Enterprise a reliable backbone for PLM / SPDM systems in terms of handling simulation workflows.
Example of a simulation workflow with design optimization study
User adoption of SPDM systems can be challenging as it is often seen as a burden by engineering domain experts, who may even consider it as an additional useless bureaucracy, often resulting in repetitive manual simulation data management. With pSeven Enterprise there is no need for domain experts to step out of engineering framework to manage data as it can be easily automated.
At the same time, seamless integration with simulation workflows allows project managers to use SPDM transparently, knowing which workflow with which version was used to produce the results.
In addition, pSeven Enterprise naturally holds the simulation context information, like user data (ex. who runs what) or which application with which version was used. This context information can then be captured in SPDM system as additional metadata.
Throughout the product lifecycle input data and requirements change frequently. This leads to the need to rerun the simulations over and over again. Workflows in pSeven Enterprise not only allow capturing the processes, but automatically executing them over any number of input configurations, which leads to significant time savings and traceable results.
In pSeven Enterprise, a single block can ensure bi-directional communication with PLM / SPDM systems to automatically pull the latest input data and push back the results. This block can be stored in a centralized library to be accessible to every user and linked to any other block of simulation workflows.
Example of a workflow connected to SimData Manager, the SPDM system by PDTec, via a dedicated connector block:
Pull required data objects from SPDM
Workflow connected to SPDM
Push results back to SPDM
pSeven Enterprise can act as a universal connector for PLM / SPDM systems to a zoo of 3rd party or in-house simulation software and models, standalone or combined into multidisciplinary workflows. Packaged as version-controlled web apps accessible via REST API, all simulation workflows are executed server-side in predefined runtime environments with scalable resource management. This makes formalized simulation methodologies available through straightforward link in tools, for example, like Aras Innovator, Siemens Teamcenter, SimData Manager or in-house systems.
